Pondicherry University reached a significant milestone with the launch of the SDG Selfie Standee Initiative under the SUSTAINABILITY@PU Program, aimed at raising awareness and fostering education about the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among all stakeholders. The initiative was inaugurated at three key locations on campus: The G20 Garden near the Administrative Building, the Library, and opposite the Shopping Complex.
The launch event was presided over by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor (i/c), Prof. K. Tharanikkarasu. The program began with the release of a commemorative booklet by Prof. K. Tharanikkarasu, who highlighted the university’s integration of sustainability into its curriculum, research, and operations. He emphasized ongoing initiatives such as renewable energy adoption, water conservation, waste management, and green infrastructure. Additionally, he encouraged stakeholders to engage in community partnerships and work collectively towards a sustainable and equitable future.
The initiative was a collaborative effort involving coordinators from various departments: Prof. R. Arun Prasath (Green Energy Technology), Prof. Dr. K. Srinivasamoorthy (Earth Sciences), Prof. R. Vishnu Vardhan (IQAC), Dr. A. Saravanan (Services & Hostels), Mr. V. Mourougavelou (Electrical Wing), and Dr. M. Nandhivarman (Civil Wing and Green Campus Office).
Generously funded under CSR by Indian Bank and Pondicherry University, the project features three distinctive SDG standees placed at strategic campus locations, symbolizing the university's steadfast commitment to sustainability and its role as a leader in sustainable development. along with distinguished guests, including Prof. Clement Sagayaradja Lourdes, Director (C&CR), Prof. Sadanand G. Swami, Registrar (i/c), and Mr. A. Sathish Kumar, Lead District Manager, Indian Bank.
