As part of its social responsibility efforts, Zomato, India's food ordering and delivery services platform, in collaboration with Chennai Ploggers, organized a Post-Diwali cleanup drive at Gopalapuram Playground near Mount Road in Chennai. The drive, held on November 2, 2024, saw a strong turnout of 65 participants, including 60 Zomato employees and five members of the Chennai Ploggers group. The initiative is a part of Zomato's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability demonstrating the company’s vision for a cleaner and greener India.
Anjalli Ravi Kumar, Chief Sustainability Officer at Zomato, said, “At Zomato, sustainability is a core value that drives our operations. Our Post-Diwali cleanup drive in Chennai in collaboration with the dedicated Chennai Ploggers, is a testament to this commitment, showcasing how we are working towards taking tangible action to create a positive environmental impact beyond our core business operations. We aim to set new standards for social responsibility by engaging our employees and local communities and highlighting our dedication to responsible consumption and waste reduction - key pillars of our 'Waste-free world' vision.”
As part of the 2030 Sustainability Goals announced earlier this year, Zomato continues to facilitate 100% plastic-neutral food delivery orders through voluntary recycling and is working towards facilitating 100 million plastic-free orders by 2025. In its efforts towards a waste-free world, the company has been successful in reducing 933MT of cutlery waste in FY24 through “Don’t send cutlery”, and recycled 30,000MT of plastic waste, to date. The company also launched an innovation challenge called “Zomato’s ‘Plastic-Free Packathon” to promote startups working on sustainable packaging solutions for food delivery.
