The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Hyderabad organized a comprehensive Jewellers Awareness Programme on 27th December 2024 at the Bullion Merchants Association Building in Wanaparthy. The program aimed to inform local jewellers about industry standards, the hallmarking process, and the significance of quality assurance in the gold and jewellery sector.
The event witnessed the active participation of over 100 jewellers from various shops across the region. Attendees engaged in insightful discussions, learning about the crucial role of BIS certification and how adherence to quality standards ensures consumer safety and enhances trust in the jewellery market.
Ms. Sattu Savitha, Joint Director at BIS Hyderabad, delivered a session on key regulations, hallmarking procedures, and the BIS services available to the jewellery industry. Her address focused on the importance of staying updated with the latest industry standards and regulations, highlighting BIS's recent initiatives to strengthen the sector. She emphasized the significance of Hallmarked Unique Identification (HUID) codes in verifying the authenticity and purity of gold articles.
In her remarks, Ms. Savitha urged jewellers to ensure that all products sold are hallmarked with the six-digit HUID code, as selling fake HUID-marked gold or unhallmarked jewellery is a punishable offence under the BIS Act.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, allowing participants to raise queries and discuss best practices in the industry. The attendees expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to interact with BIS experts and praised the initiative for its valuable contribution to raising awareness and promoting quality standards within the jewellery trade.
