Students from Avvaiyar Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Pavoorchatram, representing Tamil Nadu, have won bronze medals in the national-level Karate Championship held in Punjab, marking a significant achievement.
The School Games Federation of India conducted the 2024–25 sports events at the state level two months ago. In the competition held in Sivagangai, two students, M. Sandhiya and S. Yogadarshini, from Pavoorchatram’s Avvaiyar Government Girls Higher Secondary School, participated in the under-14 category. Excelling in the state-level event, both students qualified for the national-level championship.
Following this, the 68th National Karate Championship for the year 2024–25 was held in Ludhiana, Punjab. Representing Tamil Nadu, Sandhiya and Yogadharshini competed in the under-14 category and secured third place, earning bronze medals. The victorious students were awarded prizes and certificates, bringing pride to Tamil Nadu, Tenkasi district, and their school.
The school’s Head master Ms. Jancy Rani, Assistant Head master Ms.Jegatha, and other teachers congratulated and praised the students for their remarkable achievement.
M. Sandhiya is the daughter of P. Muthukumar and Uma Maheswari from Keezhapavoor, while S. Yogadharshini is the daughter of V. Sivaprakash and Sangeetha from Pavoorchatram. Notably, their Karate training was provided by V. Sivaprakash, President of the Tenkasi District Karate Association, and S. Sangeetha Sivaprakash, a trainer at the Tirunelveli Government Model School.
