The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Hyderabad Branch Office organized an Industry Meet as part of its 78th Foundation Day celebrations. The event, held at Hotel Marigold, was attended by key stakeholders from various industries across Telangana, including both BIS licensees and non-licensees.
Dr. G. Malsur, Director, Commissionerate of Industries, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, with Shri Rajkumar Ohetkar, Additional Director, Industries, Shri Shyam Sunder Jaju, Deputy Commissioner, Labour Department, and other distinguished guests in attendance. The event provided a platform for discussion on industry standards, licensing, and the promotion of quality assurance across sectors.
Inaugural Speech by Shri PV Srikanth, Director and Head, BIS Hyderabad
In his inaugural address, Shri PV Srikanth, Director and Head of BIS Hyderabad, highlighted the significant milestone of the Bureau completing 78 years of service to the nation. He reflected on BIS's long-standing commitment to formulating Indian Standards and fostering a quality-conscious culture in the country.
Shri Srikanth thanked all the stakeholders present, including industries, government officials, and partners, for their ongoing support and collaboration in enhancing India’s industrial standards. He spoke about the critical role of the ISI Mark and other assurance marks provided by BIS in ensuring the quality and authenticity of products across different sectors. He encouraged industries to come forward and apply for BIS licensing, emphasizing the benefits of adhering to national standards to build consumer trust and safety.
Chief Guest Dr. G. Malsur’s Address: New Industrial Policy of Telangana
Dr. G. Malsur, Director of the Commissionerate of Industries, spoke about the new Industrial Policy of Telangana state. He emphasized how the state government is working diligently to ensure industries comply with high standards and are supported in their efforts to grow. Dr. Malsur elaborated on the initiatives taken by the Telangana government to develop the industrial sector, including improved infrastructure, better access to resources, and policies designed to encourage innovation and sustainable growth.
He also highlighted how the state’s new policies align with national standards, aiming to boost both quality and competitiveness. Dr. Malsur encouraged industries to take advantage of the state's supportive environment to ensure their adherence to quality standards, ultimately benefiting consumers and the industrial ecosystem in Telangana.
Technical Sessions on New Initiatives and Incentives
Following the inaugural addresses, the event continued with technical sessions led by Shri Rakesh Tanneeru, Joint Director, BIS Hyderabad, Shri Shyam Sunder Jaju, Deputy Commissioner, Labour Department, and Shri Madhukar Babu, Joint Director, Industries Department. Each expert provided valuable insights into the new initiatives, regulations, and incentives from their respective departments aimed at supporting industries in adhering to standards and enhancing quality in production.
Shri Rakesh Tanneeru spoke about the importance of certification and the role of BIS in streamlining industry compliance with national standards. Shri Shyam Sunder Jaju discussed labour welfare programs and new labour-related initiatives that promote safety and quality assurance within industrial operations. Shri Madhukar Babu focused on the Telangana government's industrial policies, including fiscal incentives, support schemes, and infrastructural developments aimed at promoting industry growth while maintaining high standards.
Industry Participation and Sharing of Experiences
The Industry Meet saw participation from over 300 industries across Telangana, including both BIS licensees and non-licensees. Attendees included manufacturers, entrepreneurs, and industry representatives who shared their experiences regarding compliance with BIS standards and the benefits of quality assurance in their operations. Many industry leaders expressed their commitment to working with BIS to enhance product quality and ensure safety for consumers.
