"Devadasi Sangharam" Drama at Lady Doak College

The play "Devadasi Sangharam" will be performed at Lady Doak College for three days, from February 18th to 20th, 2025, with six shows in total.


The inaugural show took place on February 18th, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the J.X. Miller Auditorium. The event began with a prayer, followed by the Tamil Thai Vazhthu.


Dr. A. Kavidharani, Head of the Department of Tamil, welcomed the gathering and delivered the welcome address.


Dr. R.Beulah Jeyashree, the Principal & Secretary of the college, expressed her congratulations and appreciation to Mr. M. Ramasamy, former Professor of Tamil University, who directed the play and brought history to life on stage, Dr. A. Kavidharani, and the students who staged the play. She also emphasized the importance of students developing their theatrical skills.


Mr. Jeremiah Rajanesan, Trustee and Chief Executive Officer of Donavour Fellowship, spoke about the multifaceted personality of Amy Carmichael. He highlighted her efforts to address social evils in India, despite facing numerous challenges. He noted her work in rescuing and rehabilitating women who were dedicated to temple service as "devadasis" in their childhood. He encouraged everyone to emulate Amy Carmichael's empathy and understanding of others. He also mentioned that the government had recently entrusted them with the care of 17 more students and expressed his delight at such initiatives.


Finally, Dr. P. Stella Jeejibai, Assistant Professor in the Tamil Department, expressed her gratitude to everyone.


The audience included former heads of departments, professors, professors and students from other colleges, and many others.
