As part of Fashion Spectrum 2025, NIFT Chennai proudly presented a one-of-a-kind Inclusive Fashion Show, commemorating the 30-year milestone of both NIFT Chennai and Dignity Foundation. This unique collaboration was a celebration of diversity, inclusion, and the timeless spirit of fashion, brought to life by an extraordinary group of models aged 60 to 80.
For the past three decades, Dignity Foundation has been at the forefront of senior citizen welfare across India. Founded in 1995, the Foundation has redefined how ageing is perceived in the country by addressing the psycho-social challenges faced by the elderly, helping them overcome loneliness and insecurities, and enabling them to lead dignified, secure, and joy-filled lives. Through its Dignity Care initiatives, the Foundation runs Day Care Centres, Loneliness Mitigation Centres, and Dementia Care Centres across major cities including Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Pune. These centres provide a safe and engaging environment where senior citizens participate in structured activities that foster social interaction, skill development, physical fitness, and spiritual well-being.
The Chennai Chapter of Dignity Foundation, which also celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, has consistently set benchmarks in senior citizen welfare, winning the Best Chapter Award for four consecutive years. In addition to providing nutritious meals and counselling services, the chapter ensures holistic geriatric care through a range of activities such as fitness sessions, art and craft workshops, laughter therapy, and basic literacy classes. Recently, the Chennai chapter has extended its outreach to slum communities in Mannady, enhancing its impact and inclusivity.
To mark this momentous year, NIFT Chennai conceptualized and meticulously curated the Inclusive Fashion Show, seamlessly blending creativity, inclusivity, and the spirit of celebration. The event saw spirited senior citizens, who proudly call themselves “Juniors at Heart”, confidently walk the NIFT runway, proving that fashion has no age limit. Their vibrant ensembles inspired by Carnival themes from around the world were a testament to the power of fashion as a tool for self-expression and cultural celebration.
The show was expertly coordinated by Dr. Geetha Ranjini, Mr. Sridhar Amanchy, and Ms. Pratheepa Raj, supported by an enthusiastic team of NIFT Chennai students who styled, accessorized, and groomed the senior citizen models for their big moment on the runway.
This heartwarming showcase not only highlighted NIFT Chennai’s commitment to inclusive fashion but also underscored the transformative role of design in promoting social inclusion, intergenerational bonding, and creative empowerment.
