Intellectual Property Festival 2025 celebrated at CSIR Campus, Chennai

As a part of the National Intellectual Property Festival (Rashtriya Boudhik Sampada Mahotsav) 2025, anawareness programme on Intellectual Property was organized for the school students, under the JIGYASA 2.0 programme on 17 April 2025, by CSIR-SERC and CSIR Madras Complex. RashtriyaBoudhikSampadaMahotsav (RBSM) was initiated under the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) annually for enhancing IP prowess and also spreading awareness on the importance of intellectual property rights (IPR) in the country.


Shri S. UdhayaShanker, Deputy Controller of Patents & Designs, Indian Patent Office, Chennai, was the chief guest of the function. Around 100 students from KendriyaVidyalaya, CLRI, Chennai and KendriyaVidyalaya, IIT Chennai, participated in the programme.


Dr. S. Sundar Kumar, Principal Scientist, CSIR-SERC, gave a brief on the event. Dr N. Anandavalli, Director, CSIR-SERC and Co-ordinating Director, CMC, delivered the welcome address. In her address, she gave a brief on intellectual property rights (IPR) and enlightened the students on how IPR promotes and protects innovation and creativity. She also gave a brief on three types of IP such as copyright, patents and trademark and said that programme aims to create awareness among school students on the importance of IPR.Dr. S. Maheswaran, Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR-SERC, introduced the chief guest to the audience.


Shri UdhayaShankerdelivered the IP Festival Lecture on Intellectual Property Rights.  In his address, he briefed on the significance ofintellectual property and the need to protect it.He explained to the students about what is IP, difference between innovation and invention, why IP needs to be protected, steps involved in protecting IP, etc. The students interacted enthusiastically with the chief guest in understanding IP and IPR. Dr. Sundar Kumar proposed vote of thanks.


As a part of the programme, laboratory visits were arranged for the visiting students and teachers. Students visited the Advanced Seismic Testing & Research Laboratory, Wind Engineering Laboratory and Fatigue and Fracture Laboratory of CSIR-SERC. Also, hands on experiments were conducted for the participating school children. At the end of the programme, a feedback session was held, where the students informed that they had greatly benefited by the programme.
