Habitat for Humanity India, a leading expert in shelter and disaster response, has successfully supported 1,206 families in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district with Emergency Shelter Kits (ESKs) following the devastation caused by Cyclone Fengal. The intervention has supported over 6,000 individuals from marginalised communities — including members of the Irula community and enabled them to regain a sense of safety and dignity.
The distribution which covered Koliyanur, Vikravandi, Thiruvennai Nallur, Kandamangalam and Kanai blocks, was carried out in close coordination with local authorities and volunteers. The Emergency Shelter Kits included materials such as tarpaulin sheets, bamboo poles, ropes, a toolkit that includes a hammer, saw and shovel, fixing kits and other essentials like blankets, solar lamps and water purification tablets that supports families to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the disaster.
“At Habitat for Humanity India, we understand that shelter is a cornerstone of recovery after a disaster,” said Anand Kumar Bolimera, National Director of Habitat for Humanity India. “Through this intervention, we are proud to have supported some of the most vulnerable families in Tamil Nadu with shelter kits. As we look ahead, our focus is on strengthening community resilience by building safe and permanent homes. We invite corporate leaders and partners to join us in this mission and help ensure that every family has a secure place to call home.”
This intervention is part of Habitat for Humanity India’s ongoing commitment to build disaster-resilient communities through shelter-based solutions. Drawing on decades of experience in post-disaster housing support, Habitat For Humanity India ensures that its relief work not only addresses immediate needs but also lays the foundation for long-term recovery.
