As part of the observance of World No Tobacco Day, the Brahma Kumaris Meditation Centre, Anna Nagar, organised an awareness exhibition and public campaign on Tobacco Cessation and Digital Well-being at Vandiyur Park, Madurai.

Dr. M. Abdul Kadir, Former Principal of Wakf Board College, participated as the Chief Guest and delivered a special address. Speaking on the occasion, he highlighted the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and explained how tobacco products contribute to various life-threatening diseases, including cancer.

Referring to the challenges of the modern digital era, Dr. Abdul Kadir observed that excessive use of the internet, mobile phones, and social media platforms can adversely affect both physical and mental health. He pointed out that overdependence on digital devices often leads to a condition known as “Digital Obesity,” characterised by excessive information consumption and screen dependency.

To overcome this growing concern, he urged people to adopt the practice of “Digital Fasting.” He explained that digital fasting involves regulating the time spent on the internet and mobile devices, reducing unnecessary screen usage, and allocating more time to family interactions, education, physical exercise, and social engagement. Such a balanced approach, he said, is essential for achieving digital well-being and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Earlier, Brahma Kumari Rani, Chief Coordinator of the Brahma Kumaris Meditation Centre, Anna Nagar, explained the exhibits and awareness materials displayed at the exhibition on tobacco cessation and digital well-being, creating awareness among the visiting public.

Mr. Mohan, Secretary of the Nadar Mahajana Sangam, and Mr. Ayub Khan, Contractor of Vandiyur Park, also addressed the gathering and shared their views on the importance of a healthy and disciplined lifestyle.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Brahma Kumari Geetha.

A large number of visitors to Vandiyur Park participated in the event, viewed the exhibition, and benefited from the awareness campaign.
