As a part of the nationwide celebration of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025, the Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) successfully organized the “Siddha Harit Yoga Trek” under the Harit Yoga campaign — a signature initiative aimed at encouraging the practice of Yoga in natural environments.

The event took place on Thursday, 19th June 2025, from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM at the scenic Pachamalai Hills, Tambaram Sanatorium, Chennai, with the enthusiastic participation of over 100 attendees. The event was held in collaboration with Agathi Trust, Tambaram.

The trek was flagged off by Prof. Dr. N.J. Muthukumar, Director General, Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS), marking the commencement of the Siddha Harit Yoga Trek 2025.

Rooted in the teachings of Thirumoolar, the great Tamil Siddhar and author of the Thirumandiram, the trek harmoniously blended Siddha Yogam, environmental awareness, and community responsibility. The participants, including CCRS staff, students, and faculty members from Sri Sairam Siddha Medical College, Velumailu Siddha Medical College, and Dharma Ayurveda Medical College, along with volunteers from Agathi Trust, enthusiastically took part in the trek and clean-up initiative. They practiced Yoga amidst nature, embodying the Siddha philosophy of inner discipline, ecological harmony, and holistic well-being.

Highlights from the Siddha Harit Yoga Trek:

● Guided Nature Trek

A well-organized trek through the tranquil trails of the Pachamalai Hills offered participants an immersive experience in nature, fostering a deeper appreciation for the environment and its preservation.

● Siddha Yoga in Natural Surroundings Rejuvenating Siddha Yoga sessions were conducted in serene hilltop settings, enhancing physical vitality and promoting mind-body harmony. The open-air environment added to the meditative and restorative atmosphere.

● Thought-Provoking Environmental Talks Expert-led discussions engaged participants on pressing ecological topics.

● Seed Ball Distribution & Eco-Reforestation Effort In a symbolic gesture supporting reforestation, all participants were provided with eco-friendly seed balls. During the descent, these were thoughtfully dispersed along barren soil patches along the trail. Care was taken to avoid water bodies, footpaths, and densely vegetated areas, ensuring that the initiative contributed meaningfully to the regreening of the landscape. This mindful act underscored each participant’s dedication to ecological restoration.

● Trail Clean-up Drive Upholding the principles of sustainability, participants enthusiastically took part in a aclean-up initiative along the trekking route. Equipped with gloves and biodegradable waste bags, volunteers collected litter—particularly plastic and non-biodegradable waste—along the trail. The collected waste was systematically segregated and handed over at the designated collection point at the base. This collective action ensured that the trail was left cleaner and greener, setting an example of environmental responsibility for future events.

The Siddha Harit Yoga Trek not only celebrated the spirit of yoga and wellness but also translated that spirit into action through community-led environmental initiatives. After the event, participants were served nutritious Siddha-based traditional food, aligning with the holistic health principles of the Siddha system.
