Sadhguru’s Cauvery Calling movement is organising a grand seminar titled “Transformative Agriculture for Lucrative Income” on June 22, 2025 (Sunday) at the Sarada Krishna Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital campus in Kulasekharam, Kanyakumari district. Envisioned by Sadhguru, Cauvery Calling aims to revive the depleting Cauvery River by planting 242 crore trees across its basin.
Thamizhmaran, the field coordinator of the Cauvery Calling movement, addressed the media yesterday at the Chennai Press Club, sharing more details about the Cauvery Calling movement and the upcoming seminar for farmers.
The seminar will feature special addresses by Dr. Senthilkumar from the National Horticultural Research Institute, Bengaluru, along with scientists Dr. K. Kandiannan, Dr. S. Aarthi, and Dr. Mohammad Faisal Peeran from ICAR–Indian Institute of Spices Research. In addition, pioneering farmers who have received national and state awards for tree-based farming will share their experiences, offering valuable insights to the participants.
Cauvery Calling movement promotes tree-based agriculture among farmers, focusing on three key objectives: enhance farmers’ economic well-being, enrich soil health and improve water retention, in turn helping sustain the river’s year-round flow. In addition, the movement educates farmers on intercropping tree-based crops with coconut, areca nut, and others to further boost their income.
The initiative seamlessly integrates economic and ecological goals and so far, over 2 lakh farmers have adopted tree-based farming through this effort. Last year alone, 1.21 crore trees were planted on agricultural lands across Tamil Nadu.
To raise awareness about tree-based farming, large-scale seminars are being held across Tamil Nadu, guiding farmers on how to generate a steady income from tree cultivation without waiting decades for returns. Over the past four years, in collaboration with the National Horticultural Research Institute in Bengaluru and the Indian Institute of Spices Research in Kozhikode, the movement has enabled farmers in the plains to take up spice cultivation.
It has conducted multiple seminars, training farmers in pepper cultivation on the plains. This has led to the emergence of model pepper farmers in every district. Nearly 3,000 farmers have now taken up pepper cultivation, marking a significant shift. Following this success, nutmeg and avocado cultivation are also gaining momentum, with farmers in several districts now harvesting these crops.
Thamizhmaran encouraged all farmers in Tamil Nadu to attend the seminar on June 22, and learn more about tree-based agriculture to enhance their income. Interested participants can register by calling 94425-90079 or 94425-90081.
