Pondicherry University NSS launches Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Campaign 2.0 Drive

In commemoration of World Environment Day, under the aegis of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports the National Service Scheme (NSS) of Pondicherry University organized a Mega Tree Plantation Drive under the banner “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” Campaign 2.0. The event reflects the Government of India's vision of “Whole of Government” and “Whole of Society” approach to environmental sustainability and climate action.


The initiative was inaugurated and planted by Prof. P. Prakash Babu, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University, who emphasized the importance of collective responsibility towards a greener and healthier future. While speaking on the occasion further he said how Pondicherry University stands tall among other universities in terms of campus with age old trees and eco-friendly environment.


This event is part of the G20 India initiatives, aiming to foster environmental consciousness among youth and the wider community. The programme was coordinated by the NSS Unit in collaboration with, Office of Dean Students’ Welfare, Engineering Wing, Horticulture Wing, IQAC, NCC, and the Office of Green Campus.


During this tree plantation drive more than 50 varieties of fruit bearing trees including Mango, Chikku, custard apple, jack fruit, guava, Amla and blue berry trees were planted.     Prof. K. Tharanikkarasu, Director (SEI&RR), Prof. Clement Sagayaradja Lourdes, Director (C&CR), Dr. M. Vijayakumar, Librarian, Prof.Y.Venkata Rao, Dean, Students’ welfare, the Programme officers, NSS Dr.Santhosh Mathew, Prof.A.Praveen, Prof.C.Suresh Kumar, Dr.Shanmugam and Dr.G.Prabagaran Deans and Heads of departments and Faculty members, Non-teaching staff members and scholars and students were participated in the programme.  The programme was co-ordinated by Prof. C. Satheesh Kumar, Programme Co-ordiator, NSS, Pondicherry University.
