TNAU Ph.D. Scholars Visit Parliament House on VP’s Invitation

The Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar has visited Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore on 27.4.2025. In continuation, the Vice President has invited TNAU students to visit Parliament House of India, New Delhi on 3, July 2025. Subsequently, a delegation of 23 Ph. D students from different academic disciplines and two faculty members undertook an educational visit to the prestigious Parliament House. 


The scholars were taken on a guided tour of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Chambers, where they were briefed on the parliamentary structure, functioning of both houses, and the legislative process of the Indian democratic system. They observed the seating arrangements, speaker’s podiums, and galleries, gaining insights into how national debates and law-making are conducted. The tour extended to both the Old and New Parliament Buildings, allowing the students to witness the architectural evolution of India’s most iconic legislative institutions. 


Parliament officials shared in-depth information on the history and significance of the Parliament House. The symbolic use of colors in the two Houses was also explained green in the Lok Sabha, symbolizing prosperity and linking to the House of Commons (US Parliament), and red in the Rajya Sabha, reflecting dignity and tradition, in line with the House of Lords (US Parliament). The students also visited the Parliament Library, one of Asia’s largest, where they saw rare books, historical documents, and research materials. They toured the Princess Chamber, a historic hall from the colonial era, which gave them a deeper understanding of India’s parliamentary past. 


The Organiser of the event Dr.D.Suresh Kumar, Dean (SPGS) has meticulously planned the visit to the Parliament House by the students and guided them to adhere the etiquettes’ to be followed during the visit. Dr. Thamizhvendan, Registrar and Acting Vice Chancellor of TNAU, said that the visit helped the students learn more about India’s democracy, government and how research and agriculture connect with national policies.
