Pondicherry University’s UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre organised a one-day Workshop for the College Principals. The main objectives workshop for college Principals is an effort to build and enhance leadership capacity and management knows how across higher educational institutions located in the Union Territory of Pondicherry.
The workshop was inaugurated Prof. Appa Rao Podile, Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad, during his inaugural address he has highlighted the significance of managing diversity across the spectrum of colleges and the importance role to be played by the College Principals. He is also emphasized technollogical advance taking place in the different spectrum of academic teaching and research and its implications on the job markets of the students. The principals can play a crucial role in imparting training in Gen Z will pave the way for entrepreneurial and employment opportunities.
Shri. Aman Sharma, Director, Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Puducherry in his special address emphasized the achievement of Puducherry in Gross Enrollment Ratio at 61.5 percentage second highest in the country after Union Territory of Chandigarh and the college density index 53 Colleges per lakh population which is highest in the country. He also highlighted 35,000 students enrolled across different courses in the UT of Puducherry. He appreciated the measures taken by Pondicherry University with regard to implementation of NEP 2020, Multiple entry and multiple exist system, Academic Bank Credit (ABC) , 80,000 APAR registration. He has instructed the Principals of Colleges about the quality improvisation can be done only with the support of Colleges Principals at the College levels by adopting good principles, doing out of box thinking and training the faculties.
Prof. V. Bharathi Harishankar, Vice-Chancellor of Avinashilingam Institute, Coimbatore in her special address she emphasized the need for interaction between the principals in sharing the best practices, adopting of NEP 2020 without any hesitation and taking steps to eliminate challenges and embracing opportunities provide by NEP interns of Skill development, exploring more knowledge through Swayam and NPTEL courses for the better future of Students.
Prof. Prakash Babu, Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry presided over the function. In his presidential address he advised the Principals of Colleges set a target and work for the same. Bring college students to University campus to visit laboratories, library, special infrastructure facilities available. Pondicherry University is ready and continues to do Capacity Building for faculty members, Staff and Students in the coming days.
The technical sessions featured distinguished speakers addressing key themes such as “Being a Head of a Higher Education Institution in Amrit Kaal,” “Academic Leadership in the Era of Viksit Bharat,” “Leading the College by Adopting Changes and Cultures,” and “Key Roles of Principals for the Successful Navigation and Implementation of the NEP Ecosystem.”
Prof. P. G. Arul, Director, UGC -Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre welcomed the gathering and highlighted the significance of offering training for the College Principals of Affiliated colleges of Pondicherry University.
The programme concluded with a Valedictory session where Prof Rajneesh Bhutani, Registrar of Pondicherry University offered his
valedictory address and distributed the Certificates to all the Principals who attended the program. In this program the Deans, Heads of the Department and Centre heads joined in good numbers. finally, Dr. K. Srujana, Assistant Professor, UGC-MMTTC, Pondicherry University proposed a vote of thanks.
