Tamil Nadu has recorded a significant 63% increase in bus bookings this Dussehra compared to last year, according to data from the redBus platform. The spike reflects growing regional and intercity travel, as people plan to visit family or explore new destinations during the festive period from September 22 to October 2. Intrastate routes such as Chennai–Coimbatore, Madurai–Chennai, and Tiruchirapalli–Chennai dominate the bookings, while key interstate routes include Chennai–Bangalore, Coimbatore–Bangalore, and Chennai–Hyderabad.
According to redBus spokesperson, the data highlights traveler preferences, with 70% of bookings for AC buses and 73% for sleeper coaches, indicating a strong demand for comfort. Top boarding points in Tamil Nadu include Koyambedu, Gandhipuram, Kilambakkam, Mattuthavani, and Porur. Women travelers account for 34% of bookings, while 47% of passengers hail from metro areas and 34% from smaller towns and villages.
These trends underline the rising mobility and evolving travel patterns in Tamil Nadu during the festive season. The surge in bus bookings demonstrates how road transport is increasingly preferred for festive travel, offering insights into the growing demand for both local and interstate bus services ahead of Dussehra celebrations.
