JIPMER observes World Occupational Therapy Day 2025

The Occupational Therapy Section of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) at JIPMER, Puducherry, successfully observed “World Occupational Therapy Day 2025” focused on the theme: “Occupational Therapy in Action.”


The program, organized by Dr. Sathish Kumar.S, Senior Occupational Therapist and In-charge of the Occupational Therapy section, commenced with an address highlighting the crucial role of occupational therapy in enabling people of all ages to live life to its fullest by helping them participate in the everyday activities (occupations) they want and need to do.


The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr. S. Vinod Kumar, Medical Superintendent and Senior Scale Professor of Pulmonary Medicine at JIPMER. During the event, a video titled “Role of Occupational Therapy In rehabilitation” was formally released.


The video release and inaugural ceremony took place in the presence of key departmental personnel, including Dr. Navin kumar, Head of Department and Professor, PMR, Dr. V. Padmapriyadarsini, Assistant Professor, PMR, and other staff members of the PMR Department.


Following the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Sathish Kumar.S announced the launch of a comprehensive month-long awareness programme, spanning from October 27th to November 26th, 2025. This extensive campaign aims to promote awareness about occupational therapy services across various departments and settings. The awareness activities will be conducted in several key OPDs, including Geriatric OPD, Immunology OPD, Plastic Surgery OPD, Psychiatric OPD, Orthopedics OPD, Neurology OPD, RCC OPD


In addition to patient awareness, the initiative will also include a special focus on Workplace Ergonomics for Admin Staff, emphasizing injury prevention and optimal work environments. As part of the campaign, educative pamphlets in both Tamil and English have been made available at the Geriatric OPD to benefit elderly patients and their caregivers.


The event marked a significant effort by the PMR Department's Occupational Therapy Section to reinforce its commitment to rehabilitation and community health awareness.
