NITTTR Chennai Celebrates 62nd Institution Day

The National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Chennai, an Institute deemed to be a University under the distinct category of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, celebrated its 62nd Institution Day on Sunday, 14th December 2025. The event was held at the Thiruvalluvar Auditorium, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Academic Complex. Prof. Dr.Venkappayya R Desai, Director, IIT Dharwad, Karnataka graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Prof. Dr. Usha Natesan, Director of NITTTR Chennai, presided over the function.


The celebrations began with a sapling plantation ceremony led by the Chief Guest and the Inaugural of Happitude Wellness Centre at Swami Vivekananda Block highlighting NITTTR Chennai’s emphasis on mental health and holistic well-being of faculty and staff, followed by an invocation and ceremonial lamp lighting. Dr. V.Vandhana Devi, Professor delivered the Welcome Address and Programme Overview.


In her Presidential Address, Prof. Dr. Usha Natesan highlighted the remarkable achievements of NITTTR Chennai. She highlighted the institute’s global outreach, innovative training programmes, and academic initiatives, including digital pedagogy, AR–VR-based learning, and national and international workshops. She referred to the conferences conducted in regional languages, reinforcing inclusive and accessible education. She also mentioned about how the institution has encouraged the participation of faculty in various programs, and conferences across several countries. She praised the achievements of both the faculty and students at various programs.


The Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Venkappayya R. Desai, Director, IIT Dharwad, Karnataka, delivered an inspiring address. He reflected on India’s rich cultural and architectural heritage, citing examples such as the Brahadeeshwara temple of Thanjavur, Grand Anicut (Kallannai Dam) and Ellora caves of Maharashtra, a monolithic rock-cut marvel sculpted over generations. Drawing parallels between heritage and education, he underscored the importance of vision, perseverance, and long-term institutional building in higher education. He also appreciated the pivotal role played by NITTTR Chennai in strengthening technical education across the country.


The institute also felicitated staff members who have completed 25 years of dedicated service at NITTTR Chennai, recognizing their unwavering commitment and invaluable contributions.


Dr. G.Kulanthaivel, Prof & Head, DECE proposed the Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, and contributors for making the event a grand success.


The celebration concluded with felicitations by former Chairman, Directors, faculty and staff members, followed by cultural performances reflecting the richness and diversity of Indian performing arts. The programme culminated in a press meet, the rendering of the National Anthem, and a formal lunch gathering. The event stood as a testament to the institution’s legacy, unity, and commitment to excellence.
