JSW MG Motor India has achieved a significant global milestone with its flagship SUV, the MG Majestor, earning a coveted Guinness World Records title for the “Heaviest Train Pulled by a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) on Rail.”
The record-breaking feat was carried out on a secured railway section between Kakapora Railway Station and Awantipora Railway Station in Jammu and Kashmir. During the attempt, the MG Majestor successfully pulled a train weighing 406.4 tonnes over a distance of 300 feet, surpassing the minimum Guinness benchmark requirements of 400 tonnes across 100 feet and setting a new global standard for SUV capability.
What makes this achievement particularly remarkable is that the vehicle used was a standard production model, with no modifications to its engine, drivetrain, or traction systems. The attempt placed the SUV under extreme load conditions, rigorously testing its torque delivery, traction management, and structural strength. Equipped with a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine delivering 215.5 PS and 478.5 Nm of torque, the MG Majestor executed the pull with steady progression and consistent control, demonstrating exceptional engineering performance.
The record attempt was conducted under the supervision of independent automotive and motorsport experts to ensure complete transparency and compliance with Guinness World Records protocols. It was verified that the train’s movement was powered solely by the SUV, without any external assistance. All parameters, including the train’s weight, distance covered, and track conditions, were professionally documented. The train, consisting of a WAG-9HC locomotive, passenger coaches, and a guard coach, was independently validated at over 406 tonnes.
Commenting on the achievement, Managing Director Anurag Mehrotra stated that the record reflects the company’s commitment to engineering vehicles that combine strength, precision, and control even under the most demanding conditions.
The MG Majestor, positioned as India’s first D+ segment SUV, is designed for customers seeking a blend of rugged capability and premium comfort. It features triple differential locks (front, rear, and centre), an advanced 4WD system with multiple off-road modes, crawl control, 219 mm ground clearance, and an 810 mm water-wading capacity. Additionally, the SUV is equipped with Level 2 ADAS and advanced in-cabin technologies, reinforcing its focus on safety, innovation, and a superior driving experience.
With this achievement, JSW MG Motor India has further strengthened its position in the premium SUV segment, setting new benchmarks in performance and capability on a global stage.
