A weekly public grievance redressal meeting was held at the Thoothukudi Collectorate on Monday under the chairmanship of District Collector Vishu Mahajan.
During the meeting, a total of 524 petitions were received from members of the public seeking assistance on various issues, including educational scholarships, free house site pattas, patta transfer orders, patta regularisation, housing under the Kalaignar Kanavu Illam Scheme, business loans, old-age pension, widow pension, employment opportunities, and other welfare-related requests.
The Collector directed the concerned departmental officials to take appropriate action on the petitions received and ensure timely resolution of the grievances.
Prior to the meeting, Collector Vishu Mahajan personally met persons with disabilities, received 22 petitions from them, and patiently heard their concerns. He also received petitions from senior citizens at a specially designated counter arranged exclusively for them as part of efforts to provide better access to government services.
During the grievance redressal programme, all government officials took the Anti-Elder Abuse Pledge in observance of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
The Collector also provided immediate relief to three beneficiaries who had submitted petitions during the previous week's grievance meeting by issuing patta orders worth a total benefit of ₹1.72 lakh.
In addition, under the Department of Children Welfare and Special Services, personal hygiene kits were distributed to ten child care institutions through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding for the benefit of children residing in those facilities.
The meeting was attended by district officials from various departments who reviewed public grievances and welfare initiatives aimed at improving citizen services across the district.
