Former Tamil Nadu Minister and DMK Deputy General Secretary I. Periyasamy has warned that the party would stage a protest and lay siege to the Kannivadi Police Station if police officials allegedly act in favour of rival political parties and file what he described as false cases against DMK members.
The warning came after a group of DMK functionaries and party workers from T. Pudupatti near Kannivadi reportedly complained to Periyasamy that a Sub-Inspector serving at Kannivadi Police Station was acting in support of AIADMK members and allegedly threatening to foist false cases against DMK cadres.
Periyasamy, who is also the DMK MLA from Athoor Assembly constituency, made the remarks while waiting at Dindigul Railway Station before travelling to Chennai to attend the ongoing Assembly session. During his visit to the station, he reportedly met members of the public, received petitions seeking educational and medical assistance, and issued recommendation letters to support the education of economically disadvantaged students.
Responding to the complaints raised by party workers, Periyasamy said that police personnel must act responsibly and uphold law and order without political bias.
“If police officials support rival parties, threaten DMK workers, or register false cases against them, we will not remain silent. We will organise a massive protest and lay siege to the Kannivadi Police Station. If action is not taken against officials who support irregularities, a large-scale condemnation protest will be launched,” he said.
He further stated that a date for the proposed agitation would be announced after his return from the Assembly session in Chennai.
The remarks have generated political attention in the region, particularly amid the allegations raised against local police officials.
Several DMK leaders and functionaries accompanied Periyasamy during the occasion, including Dindigul East District Deputy Secretary A. Nagarajan, District Treasurer Sathiyamoorthy, Union Secretaries Dindigul Nedunchezhian, Murugesan and Rajendran, Dindigul City Secretary S. Rajappa, and other district, union, and municipal-level office-bearers.
