DMK Government Brought Drinking Water Supply Through Overhead Tanks to Every Village: I. Periyasamy

Former Minister I. Periyasamy stated that it was the DMK government that ensured drinking water supply to villages through overhead water tanks. He made these remarks while inaugurating a new overhead water tank at Narasingapuram in Dindigul district. He also praised Dindigul MP R. Sachithanantham for effectively utilizing his constituency development funds for public welfare projects.


The inauguration ceremony was held at Narasingapuram, under the Sithayankottai Town Panchayat, where an overhead water tank costing ₹35 lakh was constructed using the MP Local Area Development Fund (MPLADS) for 2025–26. The function was presided over by Town Panchayat Chairperson Pothumponnu Murali.


DMK State Deputy General Secretary and former Minister I. Periyasamy, along with Dindigul MP R. Sachithanantham, attended as chief guests. They unveiled the foundation plaque, cut the ribbon, and formally commissioned the facility by supplying drinking water to the public.


Addressing the gathering, I. Periyasamy said that during DMK administrations, overhead water tanks were established across villages, ensuring uninterrupted access to safe drinking water. He noted that the government had also implemented numerous rural development initiatives, including the construction of tar roads, Anganwadi centres, community halls, and improvements to school infrastructure to enhance educational standards.


He commended MP R. Sachithanantham for responsibly utilizing constituency development funds to implement projects that directly benefit the public and extended his appreciation for the MP’s efforts.


Speaking on the occasion, MP R. Sachithanantham said that the people of the Athoor Assembly constituency were fortunate to have leaders like I. Periyasamy. He highlighted that Periyasamy had facilitated the establishment of a quality college in the constituency during his tenure as Cooperative Minister and later implemented several rural development schemes as Rural Development Minister, including roads, drainage systems, Anganwadi facilities, and school buildings.


The MP further stated that even today, I. Periyasamy continues to identify and address the needs of villages through various welfare initiatives.


Several political leaders, local body representatives, party functionaries, municipal officials, and members of the public attended the event. The vote of thanks was delivered by Town Panchayat Head Clerk Muralimohan.
