Madurai Corporation Commissioner Inspects Solid Waste Management Works

Madurai Corporation Commissioner Gaurav Kumar conducted a field inspection yesterday (June 12, 2026) to review solid waste management activities in several areas under Zone 2 of the Madurai Corporation.


The inspection covered K.K. Nagar Main Road, Sundaram Park Main Road, Apollo Junction in Ward No. 33, and the localities of Sellur, Meenambalpuram, Narimedu, and Kamarajarpuram 2nd Street in Ward No. 24.


During the visit, the Commissioner reviewed sanitation and waste management operations and instructed officials to create greater awareness among residents and commercial establishments about proper waste disposal practices. He directed officials to advise the public and business owners not to dump garbage on roads and public spaces, but instead to use the waste bins provided by the Corporation.


The Commissioner also instructed officials to take action against stray cattle roaming on roads and causing inconvenience to the public and traffic. He directed the authorities to impound such cattle and impose appropriate penalties on their owners.


Further, while inspecting Sellur, Meenambalpuram, Narimedu, and Kamarajarpuram 2nd Street, he ordered officials to expedite the rectification of blockages in the underground sewerage system. He also directed the removal of silt and garbage from stormwater drains to ensure the smooth flow of rainwater and prevent waterlogging during the monsoon season.


The inspection was attended by City Health Officer Dr. Aravind Jyothi, Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Abhishek, Assistant Executive Engineer Kamaraj, Health Officer Rajkannan, along with Corporation engineers, sanitary inspectors, and other municipal officials.
