Minister Rajmohan Inspects Gandhi Museum Renovation Works in Madurai

Tamil Nadu Minister for School Education, Tamil Development, Information and Publicity, Rajmohan, paid floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Gandhi Memorial Museum and inspected the renovation works being carried out by the Tamil Nadu Government.


The renovation project, being implemented at a cost of ₹10.25 crore, includes refurbishment of the main building, establishment of digital and multimedia galleries, renovation of the open-air auditorium, and improvement of drinking water and sanitation facilities for visitors.


Later, the Minister visited training classes for children being conducted at the District Art and Culture Department campus, where Bharatanatyam, keyboard music, Silambam, and painting classes are being offered. He encouraged students to develop their artistic, sporting, and cultural talents alongside academics and urged them to continue participating enthusiastically in such programs to enhance their skills.


The Minister also inspected the Model Residential School functioning at the campus of P.T.R. Engineering College in Austinpatti. During his interaction with students, he emphasized the importance of education, discipline, perseverance, and setting high goals in life.


Addressing the media, Minister Rajmohan highlighted that Madurai, known as the “City of Festivals,” will host a government exhibition aimed at helping the public learn about various welfare schemes and development initiatives in one place. The exhibition will feature numerous government department stalls and awareness programs designed especially for students and youth. Concessional entry tickets have also been provided to encourage student participation.


The Minister reiterated that the Tamil Nadu Government's key objective is to build a “Drug-Free Tamil Nadu” by preventing youth and students from falling prey to substance abuse. Continuous awareness campaigns are being conducted in schools and colleges, and the government is taking firm measures to eradicate drug-related activities.


He further stated that steps are underway to fill vacant positions, including headmasters and senior education officers, within the School Education Department. Under the guidance of the Chief Minister, several initiatives are being implemented to upgrade government schools to standards comparable with private institutions.


To promote student welfare, the government plans to expand programs focusing on self-confidence, personality development, mental well-being, and volunteerism aimed at fostering social responsibility among students.


The Minister also announced that discussions will be held with senior officials regarding the establishment of a modern multi-purpose museum in Madurai district, and necessary steps will be taken to implement the project.


The event was attended by Madurai East MLA So. Karthikeyan, government officials, and other dignitaries.
