VGM Hospital, Coimbatore, inaugurated the VGM IBD Clinics on the occasion of World Digestive Health Day, reinforcing its commitment to providing specialized care for patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). The clinic was inaugurated by Padma Bhushan Dr. K.R. Palanisamy, Senior Gastroenterologist.
IBD, which includes Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, is increasingly being diagnosed among adolescents and young adults in India. Experts emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, particularly in individuals experiencing persistent diarrhea, blood in stools, abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss, anaemia, or fatigue.
The newly launched clinic offers comprehensive multidisciplinary care, including advanced endoscopic diagnostics, biologic therapies, nutritional support, and minimally invasive surgical management for complex IBD cases.
As part of the initiative, VGM Hospital also introduced “My Gut, My Voice,” a monthly patient support and education forum designed to help patients and caregivers better understand and manage IBD.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. V.G. Mohan Prasad stated that the VGM IBD Clinics will provide evidence-based, patient-centered care while enhancing public awareness about the early symptoms and modern treatment options available for IBD.
The scientific session started with introduction by Dr. Vamsi Murthy featured presentations given by Dr. Madhura Prasad Suman on IBD and the gut microbiome, Dr. S. Divyasarathy on nutrition and wellness, and Mr. Sumanthran, IBD Counsellor, on psychological support for patients.
The program was coordinated by Dr. Mithra Prasad, with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. C.P.S. Suman.
