Most homes may appear clean, but several commonly overlooked areas continue to accumulate invisible dust, dirt, hair, allergens, and dust mites. According to the Dyson Global Dust Study 2023, 42% of Indians clean only when visible dust appears, despite fine dust often settling in hidden areas and potentially triggering allergies.
Dyson’s Lead Research Scientist in Microbiology, Dennis Mathews, highlights that mattresses (neglected by 63% of Indians) and curtains, walls, or blinds (ignored by 68%) are among the most overlooked household surfaces. These areas can harbour dust mites, skin flakes, allergens, and airborne particles, making regular vacuum cleaning essential for maintaining a healthier home environment.
Other frequently neglected spots include pet baskets, overlooked by 39% of people globally, and windowsills, ignored by 49%. These areas can collect pet dander, pollen, debris, and fine dust over time. Paying attention to such hidden dust hotspots can help make home cleaning more thorough and effective.
