Students of Cheran Vidhyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chinnalapatti, won the gold medal and emerged as State Champions in the Mahotsav 2026 State-Level Handball Tournament organised by the Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya Educational Institutions in Coimbatore.
The school's handball team also lifted the rolling trophy for the second time, adding another milestone to its sporting achievements.
Cheran Vidhyalaya has established itself as one of the leading schools in handball in Tamil Nadu. In the RMV Yuvakendra Mahotsav 2026 inter-school state-level tournament, which featured some of the state's top teams, the school's players delivered an impressive performance throughout the competition.
In the semi-final, Cheran Vidhyalaya defeated G.S. Hindu Nadar Higher Secondary School, Virudhunagar, by 35-33 to secure a place in the final. In the championship match, the team overcame Government Higher Secondary School, Salem, with a 28-26 victory to clinch the gold medal and the rolling trophy.
A felicitation ceremony for the winning team was held at the school. The event was presided over by M. Sivakumar, Correspondent of Cheran Vidhyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School and Managing Trustee of the Cheran Educational Trust, along with N. Thilagam, Trustee of the Cheran Educational Trust and Principal of the school. P. Bharathiraja, School Manager and Trustee, welcomed the gathering.
The victorious players—Sakthibalan, Jayasuresh, Ganesh, Bhoopathi, Suryaprakash, Kevin Peter, Sivasanthosh, Dinesh Raj, Logith, Tarun Kumar, Deepak, Sanjay, Sujith Kumar, Naveed, Madan Kumar, and Yogesh Kumar—were honoured in the presence of fellow students.
The students proudly displayed the prize money and the rolling trophy, receiving a rousing ovation and applause from their classmates.
Congratulating the players, M. Sivakumar encouraged them to continue competing with unity and dedication and strive to achieve success at both the state and national levels, which would also support their higher education and future career opportunities.
The function was attended by Vice Principal K. Vennila, Trustees J. Alfred Eng and S. Abishek Sivakumar, handball coaches D. Senthil Kumar and C. Arokia Ranjani, office staff Maheswari, Priya, and Aruljothi, along with other members of the school staff.
