Erode Collector Inspects Development Works in Ammapettai Block

Erode District Collector S. Kandasamy, IAS, conducted an inspection of various development projects and government welfare initiatives in areas under the Ammapettai Panchayat Union on Thursday.


During the visit, the Collector inspected a mattress and pillow manufacturing and sales unit run by women's Self-Help Groups (SHGs) at Kesarimangalam Panchayat. He interacted with SHG members regarding the availability, quality and cost of raw materials, production processes, marketing strategies and sales to other states.


He later visited Shalini Garments, a ready-made garment manufacturing unit located on Old Mariamman Temple Street in Ammapettai. The enterprise was established with a project cost of ₹23.44 lakh, supported by a long-term loan of ₹22.26 lakh and a Tamil Nadu Government subsidy of ₹5.85 lakh. The unit currently provides employment to 25 workers.


The Collector also met a beneficiary of the Annal Ambedkar Entrepreneur Scheme, who had purchased a rental vehicle with a project cost of ₹9.17 lakh, financed through a ₹6.03 lakh long-term loan and a government subsidy of ₹3.196 lakh. He enquired about the beneficiary's rental income and the regular repayment of the loan.


He inspected the Ammapettai Town Panchayat Office and the Vellithiruppur Village Administrative Office, reviewing official records and receiving petitions from members of the public while listening to their grievances.


The Collector also visited a Sub-Health Centre under construction at a cost of ₹45 lakh, inspected the electrical and painting works, and directed officials to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe.


At the Umareddyur–Vellithiruppur Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Society Fair Price Shop, he reviewed the stock position of essential commodities, the number of ration card holders and the implementation of the biometric distribution system.


In Poonachi village, he inspected a power weeding machine provided to a farmer under the Tamil Nadu Irrigated Agriculture Modernisation Project with a government subsidy of ₹40,000, and enquired about its functioning.


The Collector also visited the branch library at Padlur Panchayat, where he reviewed the collection of books, maintenance of records, reader attendance and the requirement for additional books.


At the Vellithiruppur Panchayat Union Primary School, he assessed students' learning levels and personally tasted the nutritious midday meal served to verify its quality and whether it matched the prescribed menu.


He further inspected the Anganwadi Centre functioning on the school campus and reviewed records relating to children's height, weight and supplementary nutrition.


Finally, he visited a nursery farm established under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) at Vellithiruppur, where he examined the varieties of saplings, their growth, distribution and maintenance records.


District Industries Centre Project Manager Thirumurugan, Assistant Director of Agriculture Bhavani, Ammapettai Block Development Officers Premkumar and Indirani, along with officials from various departments, accompanied the District Collector during the inspection.
