Hundreds of devotees from Surakkaipatti and the surrounding villages participated in the Maha Kumbabishekam (consecration ceremony) of the Arulmigu Kaliamman Temple at Surakkaipatti near Kannivadi.
The temple, located in Surakkaipatti under Dharumathupatti Panchayat in Reddiyarchathiram Union of Dindigul district, has been worshipped by devotees for nearly 200 years. As part of the temple's renovation, villagers decided to construct a Rajagopuram (temple tower) and perform the Maha Kumbabishekam.
Accordingly, devotees observed a sacred fast and tied the traditional Kanganam (holy thread) on June 18, 2026, followed by a series of special prayers and rituals at the temple.
On July 2, 2026, at around 10 a.m., the chief priests completed the Maha Kumbabishekam by pouring sanctified water over the kalasams (sacred finials) atop the newly built Rajagopuram. This was followed by special abhishekam, deeparadhana, and elaborate floral decorations for Goddess Kaliamman.
At around 12 noon, a grand Annadanam (community feast) was organised, with hundreds of devotees participating.
The Yagasala Poojas associated with the Kumbabishekam were conducted under the leadership of Vedantha Desikan Pattachariyar. The Rajagopuram was designed and constructed by renowned Sthapathi S. Rajasekar of Devakottai, while the temple sculptures were crafted by Anandha Gangadharan of Dindigul.
The arrangements for the festival were made by the residents of Surakkaipatti and the temple renovation committee.
A special highlight of the event was the sprinkling of holy water on devotees using a drone, an initiative that received widespread appreciation from those who attended the ceremony.
