The General Manager Southern Railway Shri R.N. Singh yesterday (22.07.2026) inaugurated a new Running Room at Rameswaram. Rain crew include Loco Pilots, Assistant Loco Pilots and Train Managers take rest at Running Room after their scheduled working hours when they are away from their home Depot. The new running room constructed at cost of Rs. 4.70 crores. ,
The running room has a built-in space of 610 square meters on the ground floor and 380 square meters on the first floor. The Running Room can accommodate 34 persons at a time. in this separate accommodations with 2-bed capacity is available for lady train crew and another room with two-bed capacity earmarked for Loco Inspectors who are arriving the station on their inspection schedule.
Each room equipped with a table, chair, reading lamp, dressing mirror, luggage table, and other amenities to ensure a comfortable stay.
The facility also includes a kitchen, dining room, recreation facilities, Yoga room and an open gym. The campus is developed with landscaping and relaxing spots outside the building.
Allotment of rooms are being made through software equipped - Running Room Management System and monitoring of facilities ensured through CCTV system with back up . Aesthetic lighting, walls with ambient colours and space with abundant ventilation offers a pleasant stay and quality rest to the train crew here. Well designed displays carrying safety messages and safe working practices help the train crew to keep focus on the work.
At the Running Room, Food is being served at the crew with 90% subsidy with veg and non veg options. Round the clock service of caretaker are available at the running room. caretakers ensures the over all well-being of the occupants. They alert and wake up the crew an hour before the departure of their linked train to enable them to report on time for duty. Running rooms operate under comprehensive contracts that provide food , 24-hour caretaker service , cleaning of rooms and washing of bed linens. Maintaining of garden, and petty repair required at the running room also carried out by them.
A QR Code based feed back facility also available in the Running Room. On daily basis the functioning of the Running Room is being monitored at Supervisory level and review of it take please at officers level- by Assistant Divisional Electrical Engineer (Operations) and Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer (Operations) to ensures sustained functioning of the system.
