As per the orders of the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, the Minister for Handlooms, Textiles and Khadi Department met the Union Minister of Textiles, Government of India, New Delhi yesterday (13.07.2026) and presented a memorandum consisting the following demands:-
1. Establishment of Integrated Powerloom Park at Erode
2. Establishment of Silk Export Facilitation and Product Diversification Centres (SETFC)
3. International Marketing Support for Handloom Products
4. Initiatives for Development of Handloom Sector
5. Sanction of Funds for Phase II for Establishment of Handloom Silk Park, Arni
6. Exemption of Handloom Products from GST
7. Inclusion of Pure Zari and Half- file Zari yarn under the Raw Material Supply Scheme
8. Establishment of Silver Thread production Unit at Tamil Nadu Zari Limited, Kancheepuram.
9. Pending Sanction/ Release of Central Assistance
10. Kind consideration For Financial Assistance for Establishment of Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) with Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) Facilities in Erode, Namakkal and Karur Textile Clusters.
11. Permanent Removal of 11% import duty on cotton, which is given only up to 31.10.2026 so as to benefit the Spinning Mills.
12. Financial Assistance for Organizing Government-cum Industry Delegation visit and Conducting Awareness Programmes for promotion of Technical textiles and increasing exports of textiles.
13. Speedy implementation of the SAFE Accommodation Scheme (Site Adjacent Factory Employee Accommodation Scheme)
14. Providing time extension for implementing the Theni Vaigai Hi-tech Weaving Park and suspension of revenue recovery act proceedings, which have been enforced against the park.
15. Reintroduction of SITP (Scheme for Integrated Textile Park) Scheme, which was scrapped by the Government of India
16. Seeking Financial Assistance for setting up of a Marketing & Sourcing Hub at Madurai at a cost of Rs.10.0 Cr in the sharing pattern of 75:25 %
17. Seeking Financial Assistance for setting up of a Marketing & Sourcing Hub at Tirunelveli at a cost of Rs.10.0 Cr in the sharing pattern of 75:25 %
18. Request for sanctioning grant-in-aid towards organizing Interventional Marketing Event – Nos. & Gandhi Shilp Bazaars (2 National level/ 3 State level/2 District Level)
19. Seeking financial assistance for upgradation of existing Common Facility Centre for Bronze Icons craft at Swamimalai, Thanjavur District at a cost of Rs.3.10 Cr
20. Seeking financial assistance for setting up of a new Common Facility Centre for Wood carving at Kallakurichi at a cost of Rs.3.00 Cr.
The Hon’ble Minister of Textiles said that these demands should be considered more attentively.
During the meeting, the Secretary Textiles Government of India, the Principal Secretary Handlooms, Textiles and Khadi Department, the Director of Handlooms and the Managing Director of Co-Optex Government of Tamil Nadu were present.
