DePuy Synthes, a global leader in orthopaedic technologies and solutions, has partnered with the Department of Orthopedics at Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, to establish a dedicated Orthopaedic Skill Lab at the institution. The initiative aims to strengthen practical surgical education and provide orthopaedic trainees with greater exposure to contemporary technologies and procedures.

The specialised lab will offer residents, fellows and faculty opportunities to develop procedural skills through simulation-based training, instrumentation familiarisation and case-based learning. Training modules will include saw-bone practice, faculty-led discussions, implant handling and an introduction to technology-assisted surgical techniques.

The facility is intended to bridge the gap between classroom learning and clinical practice by enabling trainees to gain familiarity with surgical instruments, processes and technologies in a structured environment. This approach will help build confidence and technical skills before and alongside participation in live surgeries.

Tamil Nadu, home to 78 medical colleges, is among India’s prominent destinations for medical education and training. With orthopaedic care increasingly moving towards specialised and technology-enabled procedures, the state’s strong academic ecosystem provides an ideal environment for advancing hands-on surgical education.

The collaboration is expected to create a sustainable platform for skill development and contribute to strengthening orthopaedic training capabilities across South India.

“India’s orthopaedic surgeons deserve access to structured, technology-enabled training,” said Vishnu Kalra, International President, DePuy Synthes. “Our partnership with CMC Vellore enables us to support a leading academic institution while contributing to the development of surgical skills and better patient outcomes.”

The initiative reinforces DePuy Synthes’ commitment to supporting education, innovation and the next generation of orthopaedic professionals in India.
