The Onam festival was celebrated with enthusiasm at Sri Muthiah Memorial College in Puthukattampur near Tirupathur in Sivaganga district. The celebrations were held under the leadership of the college Principal, S.N. Venkatesan.
The college campus was decorated in a traditional manner for the occasion. Students dressed in traditional attire participated in the celebrations with great enthusiasm.
As a special feature of the event, the girl students created beautiful Pookalams using flowers of various colours. The floral designs, arranged in different patterns and vibrant colours, attracted everyone’s attention. Traditional decorations featuring banana leaves, flowers and traditional lamps were also made to highlight the cultural significance of Onam.
Students were briefed on the history of Onam, the significance of King Mahabali and the cultural importance of the festival. The programme provided students with an opportunity to learn about the traditions and culture of Kerala.
The celebration, which showcased the students’ artistic skills, creativity and spirit of unity, was held in a joyful and enthusiastic atmosphere.
The arrangements for the event were made successfully through the joint efforts of college professors Sivarama Murthy, Vaidyanathan, Manikkanachiyar, Pandiselvi and Joy Krupa, along with the students.
