At 25, Deepak Kumar, a B.Sc. Computer Science graduate from Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, transitioned from an IT services role to a Backend Engineer position at Flipkart, securing a 100%+ salary hike. After working as an Associate System Engineer, Deepak wanted to move into product engineering but struggled with scattered learning resources and demanding 14–15-hour workdays. In June 2024, he joined Scaler to build stronger foundations in Data Structures & Algorithms, Low-Level Design, High-Level Design, and System Design.
Balancing Scaler with a demanding job was challenging, but Deepak focused on consistency over speed. He regularly practised coding problems, participated in contests, and explored AI, cloud development, and open-source technologies. His contributions to Apache Fineract, Apache Kafka, and Google Summer of Code (GSoC), along with AI-powered projects, strengthened his practical engineering skills and helped him prepare for interviews covering DSA, machine coding, and system design.
Today, Deepak works as a Software Development Engineer-2 at Flipkart, helping build the last-mile delivery platform that supports millions of deliveries across India.
