A new weekly market has been opened at Anaikatti, fulfilling a long-standing demand of the hill people and residents of the area.
Considering the 10-year-old demand of the people of Anaikatti, the weekly market has been established to enable tribal communities to directly sell their agricultural and other produce and improve their livelihoods. Arrangements were made by taking a suitable site on rent for operating the market.
Union Secretary Ranjith Kumar also played an important role in the initiative.
MLA Kanimozhi Santhosh inaugurated the weekly market and interacted with the public and hill people to hear their grievances and demands.
Speaking on the occasion, she assured that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government would extend its support to improve the livelihoods and occupations of the people of Anaikatti and the tribal communities.
She further said that necessary steps would be taken to ensure the continued functioning of the market, enabling tribal people to sell their produce directly to consumers without the involvement of middlemen.
The weekly market is expected to create new income opportunities for the people of Anaikatti and the surrounding hill areas.
