Cambridge International Engages Madurai Schools on Future-Ready Education

As Indian schools and families increasingly look for education that combines global opportunity with relevance to India, Cambridge International Education brought together school leaders from across Madurai. to discuss how education needs to evolve for a generation growing up in a rapidly changing world.

The conversation comes at a time when the boundaries between national and international education are becoming less distinct. For Indian schools, the question is increasingly not whether to choose a national or an international curriculum, but what kind of education will best prepare students for the opportunities ahead, both in India and globally.

Key themes discussed included:

• Growing interest in international education within India

• The changing aspirations of Indian students and families

• Balancing global standards with relevance to the Indian education landscape

• Preparing students for Indian and international higher education pathways

• Developing critical thinking, independent judgement and problem-solving skills

• The impact of AI on learning, assessment and future careers

• Giving students flexibility to pursue different academic and career pathways

• The changing expectations of schools from curriculum and assessment partners

The discussion also explored how the expectations of education are changing in an AI-enabled world.

While technology can provide information and answers instantly, employers increasingly value skills that technology cannot easily replace, including critical thinking, creativity, communication, adaptability and sound judgement. Educators discussed how schools can help students develop these future-ready skills alongside strong academic foundations.

Vinay Sharma, Senior Vice President, International Education, South Asia at Cambridge, said: "Parents today are looking for an education that not only helps their children succeed academically but also prepares them for university, employment and lifelong success. The jobs our students will enter are changing rapidly, driven by technology, AI and global connectivity. Schools therefore have an important responsibility to develop confident learners who can think independently, communicate effectively, solve real-world problems and adapt to changing circumstances. These are the skills that leading universities and employers increasingly seek."

Dr. A. Anjumunisha, Principal and Head – IQCT, Sri Aurobindomira Group, Madurai said: The discussion made me reflect on how our school’s vision can translate into the kind of learning experiences that prepare students for a changing world. Exploring different perspectives on curriculum, skills and learner development—and understanding how Cambridge approaches these areas—gave us some valuable ideas to consider within our own context.

The Madurai cluster event saw participation from 7 schools.

The confluence forms part of Cambridge International's continued engagement with schools across India as more educators explore how an international curriculum can support both Indian aspirations and global opportunities.

Cambridge has seen growing demand for its international curriculum in India, with the March 2026 examination series recording more than 91,000 entries from over 23,000 students across 447 schools. Entries grew 7% year on year, with Cambridge International AS & A Level entries increasing by 12%. The only international awarding body to offer a March examination series, Cambridge International Education is aligned with the Indian academic calendar, enabling students to receive results in May and meet local university admission timelines while retaining international progression opportunities. This alignment is particularly relevant as Indian students increasingly pursue higher education within the country. Cambridge qualifications are recognised as equivalent to Indian Grade 10 and Grade 12 qualifications, enabling students to progress to universities and institutions in India while retaining pathways to higher education internationally.
