Shriram Finance organised an educational scholarship festival in Madurai to support meritorious students from the families of drivers, including auto-rickshaw and lorry drivers, and encourage them to pursue higher education.
The event was held at Raja Muthiah Mandram under the leadership of Joint Managing Director Sudarshan Holla and Deputy Managing Director Muruganandha Pandian.
The programme featured a magic show for students and a special address by renowned debate speaker Ku. Gnanansambandan.
Scholarships ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹8,000 were awarded to students studying in Classes 8 to 12 at government and government-aided schools in and around Madurai. Eligible students from driver families who had secured at least 60% marks were selected for the assistance.
A total of 1,500 students from rural areas surrounding Madurai received scholarships from Sudarshan Holla and Muruganandha Pandian.
Speaking to reporters, Deputy Managing Director Muruganandha Pandian said the initiative aimed to create awareness about the importance of education among children from driver families and provide financial support to help them pursue higher studies.
He said Madurai was the first city in Tamil Nadu to host the initiative, which had already been implemented in 18 states across India. He added that Madurai was chosen because of the enthusiasm of its people and expressed hope that the district would emerge as a leading region in education as well.
He said the company planned to provide scholarships to 60,000 students across Tamil Nadu. He emphasised that the programme was not merely about financial assistance but also about recognising students' achievements and encouraging them to continue their education.
