Pondicherry University Community College inaugurated its film club and the film club was inaugurated by the Tamil actor Aadukalam Murugadas. This is event was attended by more than 100 students of the Department of Visual Communication from various colleges in Pondicherry.
While delivering the inaugural address Aadukalam Murugadas narrated to the students the kind of struggles he underwent during his journey into the film industry. Further, he told the students how the media courses such as Visual Communication have an advantage to the students in terms of learning the technical aspect of film making which was not available to him when he wanted to venture into the field of the film industry. He also motivated students by pointing out the opportunities available to media students in the media industry and asking them to spend more time on studies particularly literature-related books and books of different genres.
Dr.Malathi, Assistant professor of the Department of Tamil welcomed the gathering. While talking about the scope of starting the film club Dr.C.Suresh Kumar, Assistant Professor of the Department of Visual Communication said that the film club would provide educational opportunities outside the classroom ambiance and introduce the students to the various aspects of popular entertainment mediums, cinema and also the club will help the students gain team spirit, creativity, self-motivation and long-lasting imprints of social/moral values and to familiarize students with various cultural backgrounds through unique films and to train the students to become active viewers of cinema. Dr.Thangam, Assistant Professor of the department of Mathematics delivered the vote of thanks. Dr. K.S Krithika Assistant professor of the department of Visual Communication hosted the programme.
