Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam roadshow arrives in Dindigul

The Central government and Gujarat state government organize a roadshow to generate awareness on Saurashtra Tamils in the city enthralling locals and Saurashtra Tamils alike. Government officials informed about Saurashtra Tamils and also invited locals to participate in a 15-day festival “Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam” which is expected to be organized from 17th April 2023 onwards in Saurashtra, Gujarat. 

Dindigul, also known as the city of locks, Biryani city and popular for its leather and tanning industries, is home to nearly one lakh Saurashtra Tamils. According to ministry officials, the emigration of Saurashtra residents to states such Tamil Nadu is a one of the kinds in the world. However, despite religious persecution, Saurashtra Tamils have survived and preserved a unique culture. Besides, they have enabled and contributed to the economy and society of Tamil Nadu in the form of music, food, and business ideas. 

Addressing the press conference, Shri KuberbhaiDindor, Gujarat State Minister for Tribal Development, Primary, Secondary and Adult Education, said, “The contributions from Saurashtrians is historic. Despite their challenges, the community gave everything to Tamil Nadu and Saurashtra. Prime Minister Narendra Modji has highlighted the significance of VasudhaivaKutumbakam. The Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam is an apt example of VasudhaivaKutumbakam.”
