Swachatha Hi Sewa pledge taken as part of cleanliness drive organised by Central Bureau of Communication

Swachatha Hi Sewa Cleanliness is service campaign was organized by Central Bureau of Communication Field Office Tiruchirapalli and Press Information Bureau PIB under Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry at Crea Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Nagamangalam Tiruchirapalli on Monday. Swachatha Abhiyan pledge was taken at the Crea Matriculaion School.

Field Publicity Officer Tiruchirapalli Shri K Devi Padmanabhan in his keynote address said that Swachatha Hi Sewa fortnight campaign is being organized from September 15 to October 2.  He said that Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was started by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on October 2 Mahatma Gandhi Jayanthi day in 2014. He said that more than 12 crore individual household toilets have been built under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan which has become a people’s movement. He pointed out that government has extended Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 till 2026 aiming to make garbage free cities and towns. The theme for 9th Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is garbage free India, he added. He pointed out that more than 50 per cent villages are now ODF plus under Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen Phase II. More than 3 lakh villages have been declared ODF plus villages. He pointed out that ODF plus means villages which have sustained open defecation free status alongwith solid or liquid waste management systems. More than 97.8 per cent villages in Tamil Nadu are ODF plus villages under SBM Grameen. He spoke about creating awareness about Swachtha to prevent spread of diseases like Dengue which is spread through mosquitoes.

CREA Matriculation Higher Secondary School Correspondent Smt Christy Subathra, spoke on  importance of Swachtha . She stressed the importance of personal hygiene, and cleanliness of surroundings. She urged students to help their parents segregate biodegradable and nonbiodegradable wastes while giving to sanitary workers. She spoke about the importance of safeguarding environment and pointed out harmful effects of plastic waste. 

FPA Tiruchirapalli Shri S Arunkumar welcomed the gathering. CREA School Principal Smt Shanthi spoke about Swachtha and Cleanliness. 

Cleanliness activities like removing plastic waste was undertaken to create awareness about environment safety. Prizes were given to students who won in competitions held on Swachatha theme. Pamphlets and notices on Swachatha were distributed.
