Cauvery Calling Movement conducts tree-based agriculture training at Thondamuthur

On behalf of Isha's Cauvery Calling Movement, a field training on 'Cultivation of tree crops that yield in lakhs' was held in Thondamuthur, Coimbatore today (Jan 7). More than 200 farmers from Coimbatore and surrounding areas participated and benefited from this program.

The training program was conducted at Seetha Vanam Natural Farm. Dr. T.M. Manikaraj, the owner of this farm and pioneer tree crop farmer Shri. Valluvan shared his experiences on the benefits of multi-layer, multi-cropping and direct marketing of agricultural products.

Shri. Valluvan said, "After switching to tree-based agriculture, my coconut trees have increased in yield. Also, soil fertility has also increased. This has given me many benefits both ecologically and economically," he said.

In this event, a detailed explanation was given about the selection of trees suitable for the soil and the methods of planting them. Also, the farmers who participated in the training visited the entire farm and got clarification from the pioneer farmers by posing their doubts to them.

In this regard, the Tamil Nadu Field Coordinator of Cauvery Calling Movement Mr. Thamizh Maaran said, “Tree-based agriculture is a great solution to increase the economy of farmers and improve the environment. Therefore, the Cauvery Calling Movement is actively involved in the work of promoting tree-based agriculture among the farmers of Tamil Nadu. It is getting a huge response among the farmers as well.

Due to this, today we are conducting such zone wise field training in 6 districts including Coimbatore on a single day. This exercise will be very helpful for the farmers of their respective areas to see what kind of trees grow according to the soil and climatic conditions of their area," he said.
