Bureau of Indian Standards, BIS, the National Standards Body of India, Ministry of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution, Government of India is celebrating the World Consumer Rights Day as ‘Manak Mahotsav’ on 15.03.2024 all over India. The theme for World Consumer Rights Day 2024 is ‘Fair and responsible AI for consumers’.
In the context of World Consumer Rights Day 2024, BIS Madurai organized Day long Programmes (DLP) and Youth to Youth Connect Campaigns (Y2YC) in various Colleges and Schools in different districts of Tamil Nadu since 12.03.2024. On 14.03.2024, Day Long Programme was conducted in Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar College, Tenkasi. Dr S.Harikengaram, Principal welcomed BIS Authorities and inaugurated the program. Shri S.D.Dayanand, Senior Director and Head, BIS Madurai Branch informed about the program objectives.
A Youth to Youth Connect Campaign was also conducted, simultaneously at Gandhigram Rural Institute College of Arts and Science, Dindigul.
In day long programs various competitions like Quiz, Speech, Slogan writing ‘Poster designing were conducted and winners were rewarded with cash prizes’ certificates.
In Youth to youth connect campaign each volunteer will be sharing the information about various BIS certification marks, BIS Care App etc, with another 25 students in the next five days. On completion of this campaign the volunteer students will be rewarded with Rs.1500/- each as honorarium by BIS Madurai.
The primary objective of these events is to create awareness on the importance of quality and standards emphasizing the significance of ISI mark, Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) mark, BIS Hallmark in upholding safety and quality for consumer goods. In the last three days more than 1150 students participated in Day to Day Programmes and 450 volunteers registered for Youth to Youth Connect Campaigns. The parents of the students also actively participated in the Mahotsav.
