The International Conference on Bioinformatics in Health and Food Security, organized by the Department of Bioinformatics at Pondicherry University, commenced amidst great enthusiasm and anticipation, bringing together esteemed guests, scholars, and professionals from around the globe to explore the intricate intersections of bioinformatics, health, and food security.


The ceremony began with the age-old tradition of lighting the lamp, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge and wisdom. It was graced by the presence of Prof. K. Tharanikkarasu, Vice Chancellor in charge of Pondicherry University, who presided over the function, highlighting the university’s commitment to advancing research in bioinformatics and its applications for societal benefit. Dr. S. Chandrasegaran, Professor Emeritus at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, delivered an enlightening keynote speech, sharing valuable insights into the latest advancements and trends in bioinformatics research.


Additionally, the conference was inaugurated by Dr. Velmurugan, Research Professor at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, who brought his expertise and experience to the forefront in highlighting the importance of bioinformatics in addressing critical issues related to health and food security. His inaugural address set the tone for the conference, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts and innovative solutions to tackle the multifaceted challenges facing society.


In addition to these highlights, Shri Ashish Madhaorao More, IAS, Commissioner-cum- Secretary managing the portfolios of Finance, Education, Industries & Commerce, and Port, Government of Puducherry enriched the ceremony emphasizing the imperactive leverages in bioinformatics for developing cultivars through advanced research strategies highlighted the potential for entrepreneurial investment and underscored the need for initiatives for industrial developing products in collaboration with the Puducherry government. Expressing gratitude for participation in the committee, he reaffirmed commitment towards fostering interdisciplinary collaborations.


The Director for Research and development cell Prof. Joseph Selvin emphasized the development in bioinformatics and remarked the scope for synthetic biology in the sustainable of human health.


Prof. Thilakan, Dean Academics, Pondicherry University highlighted the imperative role of Bioinformatics in the fields of Agriculture and energy.


The organizing committee, led by Prof. P.T.V. Lakshmi, Convener and Head of the Department of Bioinformatics, played instrumental roles and ensured a seamless and enriching experience for all participants in success of the conference with the coordination rendered by the co-conveners Prof. R. Amutha and Prof. A. Murali.
