Bureau of Indian Standards is a statutory body functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. It operates various schemes like Product Certification (ISI mark), Management Systems Certification, Hall Marking of Gold and Silver Jewellery/Artefacts and Laboratory Services for the benefit of the industry and in turn aiming at consumer protection.
Bureau of Indian Standards, Chennai Branch Office (CNBO) conducted a Jeweller awareness programme on Hallmarking today, 02 Aug 2024, Friday at Hotel Sri Subam Mahal, Vivekananda Nagar, TNHB Mig V Block, Avadi.
Around 64 Jewellers / Jewellers Association Presidents from in and around Tiruvallur District attended the awareness programme.
Shri D Jeevanandam, Scientist-D (BIS - Chennai Branch Office) welcomed the Jewellers and explained the programme objectives. He explained the importance of Hallmarking Scheme and how Hallmarking Scheme started and how it has evolved over the years.
This was followed by a technical presentation wherein Shri Dinesh Rajagopalan, Scientist-C explained BIS Hallmarking Scheme & Procedures, Hallmarking Rules & Regulation, Responsibilities of Jewelers, Elements of Indian Standard (IS 1417 & IS 2112) & Amendments, HUID in Brief, Online Registration, BIS Care App, Introduction demo in manakonline portal etc.,
Participants appreciated the BIS initiative on Jewellers Awareness meet. The Programme ended with vote of thanks.
