The BIS Hyderabad Branch Office conducted an awareness program on Hallmarking for jewellers and consumers at Sangareddy on August 5, 2024.
Smt. S. Savitha, Scientist D/Joint Director, and Smt. Prashanthi, Hallmarking Representative from BIS, attended the program.
Smt. S. Savitha, Scientist D/Joint Director, provided an overview of BIS and highlighted the importance of hallmarking. She detailed recent developments in mandatory hallmarking and the Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) system through a PowerPoint presentation. Additionally, she elaborated on the procedure for jewelers to register through the National Single Window System (NSWS). Information about consumer protection and the BIS CARE App was also shared.
Hallmarking remains voluntary in the Sangareddy district. Approximately 40 participants attended the program. Smt. S. Savitha, Scientist D/Joint Director, addressed participants' queries regarding hallmarking and clarified actions taken on the failure of surveillance samples drawn by BIS from registered jewelers.
