Lady Doak College Celebrates 78th Independence Day with Focus on a Drug-Free Future

Part-V extension program of Lady Doak College, Madurai, marked the 78th Independence Day with a significant event centred on youth empowerment and drug prevention with the support and guidance of Dr. Beulah Jeyashree R., Principal & Secretary and the administrators of the college. The program, titled "Empowering Youth: A Drug-Free Future," was jointly organized by the Youth Red Cross, Red Ribbon Club, and Rangering program of the college.


The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. K.Sujatha, Assistant Professor of Zoology, Coordinator of the Part V Extension Programme. The highlight of the day was an interactive session led by Mr. C. Sethumanimathavan, Inspector of Police, Prohibition Enforcement Wing, Madurai City. He engaged the students in a meaningful discussion, emphasizing the importance of awareness regarding drug abuse. Through real-life cases, he effectively conveyed the dangers of drug usage, urging students to stay informed and vigilant.


In a significant move to bolster the fight against drug abuse, the Anti-Drug Club, an initiative by the Madurai City Police’s Prohibition Enforcement Wing, was introduced during the event. Students were encouraged to actively participate and contribute to this vital cause. They were insisted to actively interact during the session and Mr. Sethumanimathavan rewarded the students who provided thoughtful responses.


Mr. A. Rajkumar, District Secretary of the Indian Red Cross Society, Madurai, also addressed the gathering. He spoke about the crucial role youngsters play in educating the public about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of individual effort in fostering a drug-free society.


The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by B. Aishwarya Lakshmi, President, Red Ribbon Club (SF), Lady Doak College, Madurai expressing gratitude to all participants and organizers for their dedication to this pressing cause. The event not only celebrated the spirit of independence but also reinforced the commitment of Lady Doak College to creating a healthier, drug-free future for the youth.  The entire session was coordinated by K.Sujatha and Mrs.M.Lakshmi.
