Mars Petcare, a renowned leader in pet care and nutrition, recently concluded its nationwide multi-city adoption drive, aimed at finding forever homes for homeless and abandoned cats and dogs. Held across India in collaboration with key partner NGOs, including Rescuing Animal in Need (RAIN) of Salem, the initiative reaffirmed Mars Petcare’s commitment to creating a better world for pets in the country.

For the first time in the district, Mars Petcare, with the support of Rescuing Animals in Need (RAIN), spearheaded an initiative to raise awareness about responsible pet adoption, with a special focus on Indie pets. More than half of the stray animals found new homes that were showcased at the event. The event took place during the festive season, emphasizing the happiness, warmth, and companionship that come with pet adoption.

In its first-ever collaboration with RAIN, Mars Petcare is committed to building a long-lasting partnership. The shared goal is to improve the lives of homeless pets across India significantly and to launch impactful initiatives that provide shelter, care, and permanent homes for pets in need. This collaboration marks the beginning of the efforts to promote responsible pet care nationwide.

Salil Murthy, Managing Director of Mars Petcare India, emphasized the importance of the adoption initiative and the collective efforts to tackle pet homelessness: “The State of Pet Homelessness Project has shed light on the massive scale of pet homelessness in India—69.3 million pets, including 60.5 million dogs and 8.8 million cats, remain homeless, making up 19% of the global homeless pet population. At Mars Petcare, we are working to address pet homelessness by doing what we can—whether it’s through the global State of Pet Homelessness Project, adoption drives, partnerships with welfare organizations, or collaborations with partners in our pet care ecosystem. We believe pet homelessness is a national crisis, and adoption is an urgent intervention that requires collaboration between public and private entities along with the larger community. With 53% of respondents expressing openness to shelter adoptions, we see hope in the growing recognition of responsible pet ownership. We will continue working with our partners to drive these efforts forward, ensuring more pets find loving homes. This initiative strengthens our shared mission of providing every pet in India with the opportunity for a healthy, happy life.”

Vidhya Lakshmi, Trustee, Rescuing Animals in Need (RAIN), said, "We are excited to partner in Mars Petcare's Adoption Weekend, which strongly supports pet adoption, especially for Indie dogs. The tremendous community support emphasizes the importance of making compassionate choices in pet care. This collaboration is not just about finding new homes for pets; it's about promoting responsible pet ownership and raising awareness. We aim to nurture the special bond between humans and pets by connecting families with animals in need, particularly Indie breeds that are often overlooked. Partnerships like these help unite the pet community and ensure every pet finds a loving, caring home."
