Toss for Tomorrow: TNAU’s Seed Balls Throwing Programme

TNAU’s Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute hosted Mega Seed Ball Preparation Event on 28.09.2024 (Saturday). Around 1000 students and faculty of TNAU participated in this mega event and prepared around 15000 plus seed balls as a part of two crore Seed Ball Programme under the abled leadership of Prof.V.Geethalakshmi, Vice-chancellor, TNAU. 


In continuation to this event, on 07.10.2024 (Monday) around 200 students of TNAU visited Karamadai Forest Range and threw the 15000 plus seed balls in the identified locations along with the guidance and support of Tamil Nadu Forest Department, ITC-Limited and COODU NGO, Karamadai.  


Prof. V.Geethalakshmi, Vice-chancellor TNAU, Coimbatore flagged off the massive plantation drive of students towards Karamadai Forest. Mr. Ranjith, Forest Range Officer guided the students in throwing the seed balls and Seeds like kassod tree, custard apple, silk cotton, indian siris, Neem and Pacific rosewood were thrown in Karamadai Forest. In future, this will improve the forest cover, enhance the hydrological behaviour of the forest watersheds and shelters the wildlife. 


On Field Poster Presentation contest was conducted for the students to create awareness and gaining knowledge about the importance of forest ecosystem and bio-diversity and the winners in the Poster Presentation Contest were awarded with prizes in the presence of Dr.A.Raviraj, Dean, AEC&RI, Dr.Balakrishnan, Professor and Head, Department of Food Process Engineering, Mr. Dinesh, Project Manager, ITC-Limited, Coimbatore and Mr. Kathiresan, Director COODU NGO.


This mega event was jointly organized in view of World Wildlife Week 2024 by TNAU’s Seed Centre, Eco Club, MasonAGE Club, Food Club, Rotaract Club, NSS and Tamil Nadu Forest Department, ITC-Limited, Coimbatore and COODU NGO, Karamadai.
