HDFC ERGO General Insurance, India’s leading private sector general insurer, organised the second edition of ‘Kapitu Varaam’ or ‘Insurance Week’ from 02nd-06th December 2024. This five-days initiative, under the aegis of IRDAI’s State Insurance Plan initiative, aimed to enhance awareness and trust in insurance across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The event featured a variety of activities designed to educate individuals, families, and businesses about the importance of insurance. The key areas of focus included motor, health, home, shopkeeper, and MSME insurance products, with the aim of making insurance accessible to a wider audience.
Commenting on this initiative, Anuj Tyagi, MD & CEO, HDFC ERGO General Insurance said, “We are committed to offering simple insurance products with hassle-free digital processes and seamless purchase & claims experience to our customers. As the lead insurer for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, we undertake various initiatives for fostering insurance inclusion in these two states. Through Kapitu Varaam, we aim to increase awareness about insurance and provide accessibility and affordability through customized solutions. Such collaborative efforts by the insurance industry with support from the IRDAI and the State and District-level Government officials will build further financial resilience among our citizens and businesses and extend the reach of insurance to the remote corners of the country.”
Since its inception in 2023, HDFC ERGO has been organising Kapitu Varaam and undertaking a 360-degree insurance awareness drive, including medical camps and rural outreach programs in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry to spread insurance awareness. In 2023, HDFC ERGO also launched the Insurance Awareness Awards Junior in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, an insurance quiz targeting government school students, to bolster insurance literacy at the grassroots level. Additionally, the company also expanded its branch network and servicing capabilities for motor and health insurance across all districts of these states. The end-line surveys conducted by HDFC ERGO in 2023 post Kapitu Varaam revealed a 27% increase in awareness of health insurance and a 53% rise in awareness of home insurance, highlighting the effectiveness of these initiatives.
