In order to improve the tribal farmers income and livelihood promotion through Spices cultivation, value addition, marketing and export promotion, the Spices Board's Regional Office, Bodinayakkanur had organized the three days "Capacity Building Programme on Spices " at Saradha Krishna Homeopathic Medical College, Kulasekharam for the benefit of Kani tribes in Kanniyakumari district, Tamil Nadu from 18-20th February, 2025.
The three days training programme meticulously planned and prepared to bridge the gap between lab to land and to empower the farming practices of tribal farmers with latest horticultural techniques and to realize the better remunerative price for their farm produce. An exposure visit to Horticulture Research Station, TNAU and the State Horticulture Farm, Pechiparai is also arranged with a focus on post-harvest processing and value addition in spices.
The Scientists from the TNAU and the officials from the Dept of Horticulture and Plantation Crops, MSME, GoI, Banking sector, Officials from the Spices Board, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Coordinator, Kulasekharam and Killikulam Agribusiness Incubation Forum have imparted the training to the tribal farmers. As a part of initiatives, the quality spice planting materials, bio-inputs were also distributed to the tribal farmers to promote Good Agricultural Practices.
The programme was attended by the 45 kani tribes from Pathukani, Arukani tribal settlement. Udyam Registration Campaign was also organized by the MSME, GoI in the sidelines of the training programme for the benefit of farmers. The certificates were distributed to all the participants on completion of the training.
